About this page

Answers to the questions people actually ask about Dhundo - what it is, where the prices come from, why a result looks the way it does, and what an account changes.

Using search well

Dhundo reads your query for intent, so the words you choose matter more than the number of them. A specific model name finds the same product across stores far more reliably than a general description, because that is the string the stores themselves use in their listings.

If a search returns less than you expected, the usual cause is that the phrasing does not match how stores name the item. Trying the manufacturer's name for it, rather than the everyday name, usually fixes it.

Reading the results

Each result shows the store it came from, the price that store is asking, and a link to the store's own product page. Where the same product is found at more than one store, the product page lines those offers up so the spread is visible at a glance.

Results are ordered by how well they match your query, not by price. The cheapest thing matching a loose query is often not the thing you wanted, so relevance leads and price is shown rather than sorted on by default.

Accounts

You can search without an account. An account exists so that your search history, the products you have liked and your wishlist survive closing the tab, and so the same lists appear on your phone and your laptop.

Signing in does not change prices, results or ranking. It changes what is remembered between visits.

Privacy and analytics

Analytics are denied by default. The consent choice is declared before any measurement call fires, so no Google Analytics or advertising cookie is set until you accept.

When you follow a link out to a retailer, that click is recorded so we know which stores people actually use. The record holds the store, the product, a persistent anonymous visitor identifier, your browser's user-agent string, a salted hash of your IP address rather than the address itself, and a coarse country and city. If you are signed in, it is also linked to your account. Hashing the IP is a deliberate choice - it lets us count distinct visitors without keeping the address - and it is worth stating plainly rather than describing the whole record as anonymous.

What Dhundo cannot help with

It cannot help with an order. Dhundo is not the seller, has no access to the retailer's order system, and cannot see, change, cancel or refund anything you bought. Contact the store.

It cannot guarantee a price will still be there. Prices and stock change on the retailer's side at any time, and Dhundo only knows what it last read.

It cannot tell you whether a seller is trustworthy. Coverage of a store is a technical fact about a scraper existing, not an endorsement.

It cannot search a store it does not cover, and it will not crawl a store whose robots.txt asks it not to.

Common questions

Each price is read from the store's own listing page and shown alongside the name of that store. Dhundo does not set, negotiate or mark up any price.

It is the price on the listing the last time Dhundo read it. Listings are refreshed when a search reaches that store, so a frequently searched store is fresher than a rarely searched one. Always check the store page before paying.

Because they are charging different amounts, which is the entire reason to compare. Watch for differences in variant, size, colour and bundled accessories, which are the usual explanation for a gap that looks too large.

It is either not among the covered stores, or it is covered but had no match for your query when it was last read, or its scraper is temporarily broken by a change on their site.

No. There is no cart and no checkout. Every purchase happens on the retailer's site, under their terms, with their payment and delivery.

No. The ranked order is computed from how well each product matches your query, and paying does not move a product up it. Sponsored products do appear in two places: a labelled strip above the results, and labelled cards placed at fixed positions within the results grid. Both are marked as sponsored wherever they appear - the labelling is the guarantee, not their absence from the grid.

Google Analytics stays off until you consent, and the choice is remembered. An account stores your search history and saved products. Separately, clicking through to a store records that click with an anonymous visitor id, a salted IP hash and a coarse location, linked to your account if you are signed in. The Privacy Policy sets out the detail, including how to request a copy or deletion.

Tell us through the contact page and include the link. A wrong price or a mismatched image usually means a store changed its page layout and the scraper is reading the wrong element, which is fixable once we know which store it is.

Cross-store matching is done on the product title, so a store that lists the same item under a very different name may not be matched to it. The comparison is a floor on how many stores carry something, not a ceiling.

No. Dhundo is a website, and it is built to work on a phone browser. There is nothing to install.
